Murray, UTAH (December 15,\n2020) \u2013 UTOPIA Fiber announced today that it has fully built its\nfiber-to-the-home broadband network in the City of West Point, Utah. The $7.2\nmillion project, announced after a unanimous City Council vote, gives every\nresidence and business in West Point access to the fastest internet speeds in\nAmerica. Remarkably, the buildout was completed in a mere 15 months. West Point\nis one of 15 cities in Utah that have UTOPIA Fiber\u2019s residential fiber service,\nand 50 with its business service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSign-ups have been astonishingly\nfast, which means the project is on track for covering its bond payments with\nsubscriber revenue in the next few months,\u201d said Kimberly McKinley, UTOPIA\nFiber\u2019s Chief Marketing Officer. \u201cStrong demand from West Point residents who\nare working and learning remotely has fueled the high take rates which are\nmonths ahead of projections,\u201d she added. Located just north of Salt Lake City,\nWest Point has a population nearing 11,000 and is adjacent to Clearfield City,\nwhich in August announced its own $13.8 million fiber-to-the-home project with\nUTOPIA Fiber. Unlike typical internet companies that cherrypick more-upscale\nneighborhoods, UTOPIA Fiber builds out the entire community with fiber\ninfrastructure, so every address has the option to use the service. West Point\nresidents can now access UTOPIA Fiber\u2019s internet services starting at $65\/month\nfor 250\/250 Mbps and will have the option to choose speeds up to 10 Gbps (up to\n100 Gbps for business) from 13 local providers\u2014the\nfastest internet speeds in the nation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\npandemic has fueled significant interest in UTOPIA Fiber\u2019s publicly-owned fiber\nservice. The network now has a pipeline of 20 cities expressing interest in\npartnering with UTOPIA, and the agency is laying over 45 miles of fiber cable\neach month, across its portfolio, to meet surging demand. \u201cCity leaders throughout\nthe state are hearing from their constituents who are demanding better connectivity,\u201d\nnotes Roger Timmerman, Executive Director, UTOPIA Fiber. High-speed broadband is\nnot just for entertainment purposes like gaming and streaming.
