After Years of Resident Complaints About Unreliable Service and Lack of Options, UTOPIA Fiber is building a $23.5 Million Network in the City<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Murray, UTAH (August 19, 2021) \u2013 UTOPIA\nFiber announced today that it now has 17 cities in its rapidly growing,\nall-fiber network after the Syracuse City Council voted recently to sign a\ncontract between the city and UTOPIA Fiber\u2019s sister agency, Utah Infrastructure\nAgency (UIA). Construction on the $23.5 million project for fiber-to-the-home service\nis slated to begin in early 2022. It is worth noting that while the partnership\nwill bring fiber internet access to all residents and businesses in Syracuse, Syracuse\nCity is already served with broadband service by multiple ISP\u2019s.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBringing UTOPIA Fiber to Syracuse City is very\nimportant for our future growth,\u201d said Mayor Mike Gailey. \u201cUTOPIA Fiber will\ndeliver on speed, capacity, and reliability, and more importantly, has the\ntrack record to help us be successful. This fits the bill in Syracuse, both for\nresidents and our economic development.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Including Syracuse City, UTOPIA Fiber provides\nfiber-to-the-home services in 17 cities and business services in 50, connecting\ncommunities to the fastest speeds currently offered in the United States.\nResidential speeds are offered up to 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps), while\nbusiness speeds reach 100 Gbps. UTOPIA\nFiber is a publicly owned Interlocal Agency that operates as an Open Access\nnetwork. This means that UTOPIA Fiber builds the infrastructure and enables\ncompetition among private sector internet service providers (ISPs) via UTOPIA\u2019s\nfiber lines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re really excited to expand the UTOPIA Fiber network to\nSyracuse City, giving residents and businesses real choice among our 15 private\nsector internet service providers,\u201d said Roger Timmerman, Executive Director of\nUTOPIA Fiber. \u201cWe know the community well because we\u2019ve been providing\nconnections for schools and businesses in Syracuse City for years. Plus, we\nalready have fiber to the home in nearby cities of Clearfield, Layton, and West\nPoint. This agreement means that every resident in Syracuse City will have\naccess to UTOPIA Fiber, connecting them to the fastest internet speeds\navailable in the United States.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

UTOPIA Fiber\u2019s Open Access model protects a free and open internet without throttling, paid prioritization, or other provider interference. Participating cities can also benefit from various smart city applications that are enabled by the UTOPIA Fiber network including an early wildfire detection system, fast public WiFi, air pollution monitoring services, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
